Which FAAC Models This Applies To

The compatibility gotcha with FAAC is that the post brackets and gate mounting plates are not universal across series. Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• Gate sags toward the latch post by a half-inch or more. The hinge welds or the hinge post base plate are yielding. The operator keeps pushing against misaligned travel and the limit switches drift out of spec.
• Visible crack at the operator mount or hinge weld. This is the one we tell Pearland homeowners not to ignore. A hairline crack is a full failure waiting for the next wind gust, and when it lets go, the gate can drop on the opener arm or swing free.
• The FAAC arm makes a clunk or the gate shudders at the top of its travel. Usually a worn pivot bushing in the bracket or an elongated mounting hole from years of Houston humidity and thermal cycling. The weld itself may be fine, but the fit has gone sloppy.
• Gate leaf is harder to push manually than it was six months ago. Binding at a hinge means the weld has shifted and the leaf is no longer swinging on its original axis. The opener is working harder, pulling more amps, and running hotter than it should.
• Fresh rust weeping from a welded joint. Surface rust on a weld in Pearland’s humidity is normal; rust that keeps bleeding after you clean it means the joint is flexing or cracking internally. That’s a structural issue, not a cosmetic one.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect: look at every hinge weld and bracket with a flashlight, push the gate manually to feel for binding, and photograph anything that looks fresh or cracked. What you shouldn’t do is grind and weld a gate bracket yourself unless you’re a competent welder with the right equipment. A bad weld on a gate hinge fails under load; when it fails, the gate leaf can swing or drop. That’s several hundred pounds moving without the opener’s control.
